Ceremonial Helmet Crest (Mask) made in Cameroon or Nigeria, Mambila (or Mambilla) People. Some 20,000 to 25,000 Mambila inhabit the area bordering Cameroon and Nigeria, to the north of Grassland. They are organized into villages without a centralized hierarchical structure. They practice the ancestor cult. The chiefs were buried in granaries, representing prosperity and life, like the millet grain. At regular intervals, such as the waxing and the waning of the moon, for harvest festivals, and for the promotion of the welfare of the community, the Mambila practice agrarian rites with masks from secret societies.
